MUSIC . . .
Our
debut album, Long Way to Be Free, was released in December 2009.
It was
recorded between July and October of the same year in no less than five different countries
(Scotland, England, Ireland, the Basque Country and Germany)!
It
features Harry on vocals, guitar, turuta, harmonica and accordion; Christophe on vocals, fiddle,
mandolin, piano accordion and melodica; and Maria on vocals and xylophone. Special guests invited
along were Nico Bettelmann on brushes (Track 1); Jaimie Bird on vocals (Track 12); Kayvan Ern on
bass (Tracks 1 and 12); Gaddafi Núñez with 'gritos' (Track 8); and Itziar Rubio on percussion and
with 'gritos' (Tracks 3, 7 and 12).
It was
produced and recorded by us, Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies, with additional help from our good
friend Ronson Jonson, who also skilfully mixed it at Babylon Central in Frankfurt am Mein. The
mastering was masterfully done by the very talented Robert Harder at his London studio, Acton
Baby.
The
album cover and all the arty stuff was done by Maria in a freezing studio in Dublin. A wonder she
still has all her fingers! All the songs were written by Harry, except The Beard Snood (Harry and
Christophe) and Bonnie Glenshee which is a traditional song from Angus in
Scotland.
